On the day following the Writers of the Future event at the end of August, Rebecca and I appeared at the newly reopened Columbia Memorial Space Center in Downey, California at a launch party for the new Star Challengers series. This educational center, space museum, and Challenger Learning Center is an extensive complex on the site where some of the original Apollo Program work was done.
Since 1996 I’ve been a judge and guest instructor for the annual Writers of the Future Contest; Rebecca became a judge in 2007. It’s one of the most gratifying things we do each year—teaching a dozen or so of the best new writers to emerge from the many thousands of submissions received each quarter.
The following is my complete appearance schedule at DragonCon this weekend. In addition we also have a table in the lower dealers’ room, and you can usually find me there if I’m not on stage.
1 PM—reading (Hellhole and Blood Lite 2)
2:30 PM—autograph session (with Rebecca)
4 PM—How to Increase Your Writing Productivity (lecture)
1 PM—Challenger Center panel
2:30—Oil Spill Disasters
4 PM—autographing (w/June Scobee Rodgers & Rebecca at Catalyst Game Labs booth, upper dealers’ room)
On Saturday, Sept 4, June Scobee Rodgers—founder of the Challenger Learning Centers—will be appearing with me and Rebecca, as well as Loren Coleman (publisher of Catalyst Books) at DragonCon in Atlanta. We have a panel at 1 PM about the Challenger Learning Centers for Space Science Education, as well as the Star Challengers series and the new release of the first volume, Moonbase Crisis.
