HELLHOLE Tour Day 12—Birthday and Booksigning in Dayton

With yesterday’s lunch of fried chicken and dinner of pepperoni and sausage pizza, it was not a good cholesterol day (and it didn’t lead to a good night’s sleep either).

HELLHOLE Tour: Lexington, Kentucky…a Day off, sort of

I left home (alas) back to the Denver airport for my trip to Lexington, Kentucky for the next leg of the Hellhole tour.  I arrived at O’Hare Airport with a lot of extra time—we landed 25 minutes ahead of schedule, but then I had two hours of layover anyway.  I had plenty of time to call Rebecca, our fan club president Deb Ray, and catch up on my email.  I am also starting work on our third Terra Incognita crossover rock CD, and I completed several letters to Shawn Gordon (exec producer) and Henning Pauly (score).

Last Day of the West Coast HELLHOLE Tour

Since the past two days in LA did not start early, I had caught up on my sleep. Wednesday, however, I was scheduled for an hour-long interview at 7 AM with a Denver radio station, KHOW, to talk about my Thursday signing in Denver.  Brian and I had train tickets to San Diego a couple of hours later, and the hotel desk warned us we might not have enough time to get to the train station.  I called ahead, hoping to start the interview a few minutes earlier in order to give us a little more travel time.

Book Tour Day 8: Even More HELLHOLE in LA

It seems a long time since I’ve spent two nights in a row in the same bed. With two signings in the greater Los Angeles area (Pasadena and Huntington Beach), we stayed at a centrally located hotel in Beverly Hills as our base.

Ken picked us up again in the morning to spend the day driving around to bookstores. I was in the room trying to upload the previous blog and photos in a very, very slow internet connection (and the cell phone dropped calls several times…funny, I would have thought Beverly Hills to be Cell-Phone Central).

HELLHOLE Tour Day 5—San Francisco

After yesterday’s overnight trip on the Amtrak from Portland down to San Francisco, I awoke surprisingly refreshed.  I don’t usually sleep well on the train (with the jerking and lurching it’s like someone constantly shaking you awake).  Brian and I each had cramped sleeper compartments (I think they’re called “cozy”) with a little table and a bench seat, and a private coffin-sized bathroom cubicle about half the size of an airplane toilet.  But the train took us where we needed to go.  We were pulling into Sacramento when I woke up, with rain sheeting the window.

Portland Area Signings for HELLHOLE

Day 3 of the Hellhole book-signing tour, Brian and I left Seattle by train in the morning for the ride south to Portland. On the way, we had a relaxing time to work on our computers, Brian editing Sisterhood of Dune, me writing some notes, and then together we brainstormed some of the plotlines for Hellhole Inferno, the second novel in the trilogy.  We arrived in Portland at 3:30, where our author escort, Kevin, met us and drove us to the hotel.

First Official Day of the HELLHOLE Tour

I got up at 4:45 AM to head to the airport.  Fortunately, over the past couple of days I had packed everything, a suitcase (clothes, granola bars and nuts, hand sanitizer), a duffel filled with (very heavy) bookmarks and newsletters, my compter case, laptop loaded with all the files I’m working on, and Kindle loaded with the books I’m reading.
